The National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) Conference is a three-part leadership training program for youth leaders developed by the Scouts BSA.  It is open to both Scouts BSA and Venture Scouts.

2 Weekends:

January 8 - 10: Weekend #1

January 22 - 24: Weekend #2

NYLT consists of  a two weekend outdoor “practical” phase and an “application” phase. During the practical phase, youth are trained in team building and leadership in an outdoor experience, which calls on them to use all of their scouting skills. During the application phase, youth applies the skills they have learned in their home Troop or Crew with the assistance of their adult leaders.

The course is conducted by a staff of trained volunteer youth and adults selected for their knowledge and dedication. This valuable leadership experience promotes confidence, knowledge and growth for both the individual and the Troop or Crew.

Qualifications are as follows:

§         Be a First Class Scout before the start of the course (for Scouts BSA applicants only).

§         Be at least 13 years old by the start of the course.

§         Currently hold a leadership position in the Troop or Crew, or have the potential and desire to serve as Senior Patrol Leader or Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, or President or Vice President.

§         Be recommended by unit leader to attend the course.

§         Have participated in unit leadership training

NYLT 2020 will focus around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he/she must KNOW, and what he/she must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. These skills will evolve during the three weekends as each patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.
