Boy Scouts, Venturers, and Sea Scouts:

Last call for Sea Base-Keys Adventure, Summer of 2014!

Join your fellow Scouts snorkeling, camping on Big Munson Island, visiting Key West, and cruising on the high seas. There is also opportunity for a night time snorkel, a bridge fishing trip, or a sunset kayak tour.

It is time to release unreserved spaces back to Sea Base for their lottery program and we don't want you to miss this opportunity. Scouting For Food

Helping Local Food Banks

Scouting for Food bag distribution is Saturday, February 2. More than 75,000 plastic bags will be hung on doorknobs throughout the counties that make up the Flint River Council.

Bag collection day is Saturday, February 9. Scouts will return to collect bags filled with donated canned goods and will take them to their local collection site.

Help the Flint River Council make this an even BIGGER success than last year!

Eagle Cove Quest

Feeling Adventurous? Come get muddy!

Have fun and help a worthy non-profit by joining Promise Place on March 23 at Camp Thunder for the first annual Eagle Cove Quest! This quest is an extreme 5 mile race for adults and older teens being hosted at the Lawhorn Scouting Base. The course has been designed by CrossFit Experts benefitting the Promise Place. While this is not a BSA even, Scouts and leaders are encouraged to participate. It is sure to be exciting!

Races will be held for those hard core competitors and also for the more laid back participant. Volunteers, participants, and sponsors are still welcomed for this event.


 

Boy Scout Climbing & Rappelling Weekend

February 23-24

Enjoy a day at the Eagle Mountain Climbing and Rappelling Center at Lawhorn Scouting Base as an individual or with your Troop. The $20 fee per Scout includes a night of camping (additional nights are $5 each). There is no charge for adults, unless camping and then the fee is an unbeatable $5 per night!

Merit Badge Day 2013

On Saturday, March 23, be one of the 700+ Scouts that take over Spalding High School for Merit Badge Day! Don't miss this opportunity for your Scout to have fun, learn new skills, and be one Merit Badge closer to their next rank.

Be Prepared Training Day

March 9

Every Scout deserves a trained leader!

Register now for Be Prepared Training Day at Lawhorn Scouting Base. Classes are being offered in BALOO, First Aid/CPR/AED, Cub Scout Range Master Training, Mentoring, Teaching Orienteering to Scouts, and more! Most of the training classes are free or have a nominal fee to cover the cost of supplies for the class.


 

Leave No Trace

 Trainers Course: March 9-10

Scouts, 14 years and older, are invited to register for this special event at Camp Thunder. Learn valuable skills for your Troop or Crew and be ready for your next outdoor experience. Learn the seven Leave No Trace and five Tread Lightly principles and learn about outdoor ethics in this essential training.  


 

Duck-O-Ree

Make plans now to attend Duck-O-Ree at Lawhorn Scouting Base. So many activities are on tap for your Scout and his adopted duck, so be sure to bring your camera and capture these lasting memories for your family!

Registrations can be made by individual families or through your Pack...just don't forget to register! Packs that are interested in reserving a campsite for Duck-O-Ree need to contact the camping department at (404) 668-6299 for details.

Weekends at Lawhorn Scouting Base

The weekends at Lawhorn Scouting Base are hopping with activities. Lawhorn is one of the few Scout camps open with full programming year round for your unit! We have activities that vary from canoeing to geocaching and from treks in the Pine Mountain Back Country to shooting sports.

While we cannot control Mother Nature, we can certainly take advantage of this opportunity we now have for weekend fun at Lawhorn Scouting Base. We have two day canoeing trips available with many half and full day opportunities as well.

We have kicked off our Friends of Scouting Campaign for 2013.  It takes everyone’s support to make Flint River Council a success for our scouts, leaders, and their families, so our goal is 100% participation from every unit across all four of our districts.

Summer Camp at Lawhorn Scouting Base

2013 is the 75th Anniversary of summer camp at Camp Thunder!

We have several exciting things planned to celebrate this milestone including a birthday party each week, a special 75th Anniversary patch, and a themed 4th of July week. And as always, we have a great selection of merit badges, our first year Scout program, fun and exciting activities, and high adventure opportunities for older Scouts.

If you haven't been to Camp Thunder in a while, we invite you to come out for this special summer and see some of the new things we have to offer.
