Chairman's Welcome
It is great to have you registering on-line today. Thank you for wanting to make a better program for your boys by seeking the hidden treasure of scouting knowledge. Our goal is to fill your individual Cub Scouting treasure chest with knowledge that will make you a better leader.

Pow Wow should be a great day of learning, fellowship, and fun. I am constantly impressed by the great attitude Flint River Council leaders display when it comes to being better leaders for our boys. Attending Pow Wow definitely characterizes that attitude and belief that every boy deserves a trained leader.

Goals of Pow Wow
When we designed Pow Wow, we did in with these goals in mind:

  1. Provide Quality Leader Training in a Fun Learning Environment
  2. Recruit Enthusiastic instructors that present interesting learning opportunities
  3. Make this day worth our trainees’ time away from home and family
  4. Offer diverse courses that satisfy our trainees’ needs
  5. Have trainees’ leave smarter than when they arrived
  6. Have trainees’ reply they would recommend Pow Wow to a fellow Scouter
  7. Set the Standard for future Flint River Council Pow Wow’s
  8. Create a template for future Pow Wow’s that will make planning easier

Scheduling Considerations and Course Offerings
First, we have developed the schedule of courses with this philosophy in mind. We offer 36 courses this year, more than ever before. About half of the courses are classic favorites from previous Pow Wow events, and half are new and offer some unique opportunities to customize your training. So if you have attended every year or this is the first time, we are offering something that will make you a better leader.

Second, we built the schedule with the intent of offering specific leader tracks for cubmasters, committee chairs, tiger leaders, wolf or bear leaders, and Webelos leaders. That is, if I was a Cubmaster, which I was, what courses would interest me. We built the day’s schedule so these theoretical tracks would allow a leader to take the courses applicable to his situation. However, these are by no means, limiting in what you choose to take. They just gave us a framework in which to make the schedule.

Third, most classes are offered twice throughout the day to maximize your scheduling flexibility. Some are only offered once, and some are offered three times based on previous popularity and experience. With all the flexibility offered, I am sure you will fill your schedule with exciting classes of interest to you.

Finally, all courses you register for will be offered on Pow Wow Day. That is, there are no minimum class sizes like last year. If you are the only person interested in taking that class, our instructors will be there for you. The only reason a class will be canceled is because an instructor is forced to cancel at the last minute and we cannot find a replacement. In this case, you will be offered whatever class you would like to substitute in its place.

Costs
$15 per adult if you register before November 15. $20 per adult if you register after November 15. Last day for registration is November 28. However, walk-ins are welcome if you can’t commit at this time. The fee will also be $20. Walk-ins will be limited to class selections for classes that still have vacancies.

Group fee reductions: If a pack registers more than five adults (we had several units that did last year), the unit will receive a $5 rebate for each additional leader over five from the Flint River Council in the form of Scout bucks which can be used from January 1, 2008 to June 30, 2008. Note: The on-line registration amount will still be $15 to keep accounting procedures simple. Your unit will receive the discount in December, but not on the day of the event.

Again, thanks for registering and attending Pow Wow 2007, Hunt for hidden treasure, Scouting Knowledge.

YIPW,
Bob Mudrinich
Pow Wow General Chairman
