The Chevrolet Corvette Car Carving Tips

  • Know the Rules—Read the rules and specifications found in your kit. Also read any rules provided by your local derby committee
  • Use the Corvette outline provided in your accessories kit. Remember to maintain the 1 ¾ inch width where the metal axle is to be inserted
  • The Corvette’s aerodynamic design has a 0.28 coefficient of drag that enables high-speed stability and confidence
  • Some recommended that the underside be kept flat to prevent wind resistance
  • Before cutting out the car, look at the axle grooves that came with your kit. Check the grooves to ensure that each is at a 90-degree angle to the car body. The local rules committee will determine whether you must use the grooves provided.
  • It is best to pre-align and drill you axle grooves before you shape the body of the car. This gives you a flat and true surface to work from on all sides
  • Only the official wheels are acceptable. Wheels can be sanded to remove surface imperfections, but the trends must be left flat
  • Make sure all wheels roll freely and smoothly around the axle
  • To fine-tune your axles, polish them with jeweler’s rouge or fine emery paper
  • Lubricate the wheels with a dry, fine powdered lube which seems to work best. Dust a little powdered lube in the hole of the wheel where the axle is inserted and some on the axle where the wheel rides
