All for Camp and Camp for All The Difference Camp Makes

Camp is one of the most important experiences we provide to our Scouts. In this unique learning environment, Scouts of all ages put their skills into action. Building teams. Tackling challenges. Trying new activities. Exploring the outdoors. Camp allows our youth to have fun in ways that keep them healthy and active. And it provides the foundation they need to become confident, productive citizens. Help us ensure an outstanding camp experience for all of our Scouts in the years to come. Add your support to the Flint River Council's "All for Camp and Camp for All" 2007 Capital Campaign.

All for Camp and Camp for All Flint River Council - A Tradition of Service

Founded in 1927, the Flint River Council, Boy Scouts of America, serves eight counites in metro Atlanta - Butts, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, and Upson. With more than 8,000 youth and 2,200 adult volunteers, we are one of the most successful Scouting programs in the country. This success is due in part to our popular and heavily used camp, Gerald I. Lawhorn Scouting Base (formerly known as Thunder Scout Reservation). Last year alone, Gerald I. Lawhorn Scouting Base welcomed more than 16,500 youth and 6,000 adults from 10 different states.

All for Camp and Camp for All One of the Region's Premier Camps

For more than 70 years, Gerald I. Lawhorn Scouting Base has been one of the South's premier camps. Encompassing more than 2,400 acres in Georgia's spectacular Pine Mountain range, the camp offers a wide range of activities throughout the year. From the traditional camping, canoeing, and hiking, to more challenging pursuits like whitewater rafting, climbing and rappelling, and mountain biking. The camp is one of only three high adventure bases in the Southeast.

All for Camp and Camp for All Time to Take Action

Our last major fundraising campaign for Gerald I. Lawhorn Scouting Base occured in the 1970's. Since then, hundreds of thousands of Scouts and adults have used our facilities. The time has come for major repairs, renovations, and upgrades. Along with expanding and improving the camp's physical structure now, the Capital Campaign will also include a $500,000 endowment. This endowment will help us prepare for future maintenance needs. It will also provide uniforms and Camperships (camp scholarships) to low-income youth, delivering on the promise of "Camp for All."

All for Camp and Camp for All A Call to the Community

To help us achieve our campaign goal of $5 million, we need the community - businesses, organizations, churches, individuals - to be "All for Camp." The good news is, the work has already been started. Through the generous funding of an initial donor, we've recently added three new rapplelling towers, created new family camping areas, and made upgrades thoughout the camp. But we still have a long way to go. Below you'll find information about the major areas of Gerald I. Lawhorn Scouting Base that need improvement. You'll also find the ways in which you can help, including special naming opportunities.
