Scout Executive Chuck Brasfeild selected to lead Golden Empire Council
It is with mixed emotions that I announce the promotion of our Scout Executive, Chuck Brasfeild.  Chuck has been selected as Scout Executive by the Golden Empire Council headquartered in Sacramento, California, one of the Top 50 Scout Councils in America.  He starts May 1.

Chuck has served alongside us with distinction since January 2009.  His energy and passion for Scouting will be missed.

Have you ever wondered what you can do to help out around camp?  Join us for our upcoming Lawhorn Beaver Day where we will be busy beavers sprucing up our camp.  The Scouts of the Flint River Council have been blessed with this beautiful camp for 75 years.  Lt's make sure it lasts for another 75.

Wilderness First Aid Training, May 16-18, 2014 
Do you need Wilderness First Aid for high adventure activities for the summer or for other Troop events?  CPR/First Aid will be offered on Friday for those that need it.  Only 20 spots available for this class.  Sign up now!

Boy Scout and Venture Scout
Shooting Weekend, May 17-18, 2014 
Bring your Troop or Crew or come as an individual for a full day of shooting activities.  Each Scout can shoot 25 shots in shotgun, unlimited rifle and unlimited archery.  Venture Crews will even have the opportunity to shoot pistols on Saturday afternoon.  Click on the more information link below to see all the requirements and to reserve your spot for this fun day of shooting!

Family Camping Weekend, May 23-26 
Your family is invited to a weekend of camping at Lawhorn!  Enjoy up to three nights at our beautiful camp and take part in some fun family activities.  This relaxing weekend is open to any family that has a BSA member.  This will be the last family camping opportunity until all the summer camp activities are over.

Mountian Biking:  Our new bikes have arrived and the trails are ready for your pack or toop.  Call the Camping Department now at 770-227-4556 to book your mountain biking weekend!
ATV Program:  We have been approved for the new BSA ATV program beginning at Summer Camp, 2014.  This program is designed for the novice rider to learn safety and maintenance and to experience the fun of an open trail ride with trained instructors on specific back country trails.  This program is designed for Scouts ages 14 and up.  Reservations will begin May 1st for Fall 2014.  Check back with us for more information.
Aquatics Mania:  Registration is now open for the opportunity to earn 8 aquatics merit badges; Rowing, Swimming, Lifesaving, Motorboating, Canoeing, Kayaking, White Water, Sailing.  Classes will be offered this summer at the Chandler Waterfront at Lawhorn Scouting Base.

2014 Flint River Adventure Race Series
Bike - Paddle - Run
Are you Scout enough to handle the ultimate Scout High Adventure Race Series?  The series will include a Mountain Bike Challenge in March, a Canoe Race down the Flint River in May, Kayaking in August, a Thunder Mudder Run in September and finally a Backcountry Trail Run in November.  All events will take place at the Lawhorn Scouting Base.
